BRITISH stammering association
The largest organisation of its type in the world. As the UK's gateway to information about stammering and the help available for it, the BSA responds to more than 3000 enquiries from the public each year. It provides specialist resources for parents, health professionals, teachers, employers and people who stammer. There is a specialist directory of speech and language therapy services, contacts for self-help groups and posters and other promotional materials available. These are complemented by an extensive mail order service of books, tapes and videos. The BSA has strong community links throughout the UK with more than 1600 members.
Approximately 720,000 people stammer throughout the UK, and many more family, friends and colleagues are affected by this often misunderstood communication disorder. The BSA provides information and support through a telephone helpline, an Education helpline, email support, a postal lending library, the BSA website, and Facebook & Twitter pages. We provide information on local NHS speech therapy services, and other effective therapies. In addition, we provide details about local self-help groups for people who stammer to gain mutual support.
They also hold events to celebrate International Stammering Awareness Day, 22nd October.
