Australian recorder player and composer Rhia Parker will be performing a set of compositions for two recorders to celebrate the launch of her debut EP ‘Ghost’ alongside long-term collaborator Danielle Jaloweicka. Rhia’s sinuous, playful and deftly rhythmic pieces draw upon the motivic language of David Lang, Michael Gordon and Steve Reich, whilst also celebrating the purity of medieval song. ‘Ghost’ EP is a time capsule of Rhia’s compositional practice whilst living in London and a tribute to her love of the city and her instrument.
The night will be opened by Detta Danford and Natasha Zielazinski performing Imaginary Landscapes, a piece exploring different listening perspectives by combining live sound with field recordings from the Thames Estuary and coastal southwest of the UK. An immersive and transporting experience intersecting ‘soundwalking’, listening and live performance.
