Chapel Cinema

The Jazz Singer by Alan Crosland

The Chapel Cinema is a pop up cinema in Bethnal Green with FREE film screenings. In May, due to a special request from our regulars, we will be screening Musicals from the Golden Era of Hollywood.

From 1927 we have The Jazz Singer: The son of a Jewish Cantor must defy the traditions of his religious father in order to pursue his dream of becoming a jazz singer.  The first feature-length motion picture with synchronized dialogue sequences, its release heralded the commercial ascendance of the "talkies" and the decline of the silent film era.

Directed by Alan Crosland

Starring: Al Jolson, May McAvoy, Warner Oland
