‘Making is Connecting’ is a volunteer-led group that has met in Create Place on Monday mornings for the past three years. It is a free drop-in with tea, coffee, recycled fabrics, yarns, sewing machines and other equipment available for people to experiment, share and make.
Some members make one patchwork block each month and by the end of the year, have enough to make a quilt. Others try knitting, crochet, dress-making, cushions and other craft. We have young and old, men and women, and a broad mix of the local community. Some come every week and have done for years, some come when work, caring or responsibilities allow.
It is a great pleasure to pull a quilt around you on a cold evening that you have made yourself. It is another similar pleasure to share past experience, future plans and ideas about how to make something. On display, in the Gallery Cafe in May, is the 'Making is Connecting' group's shared experience of learning from each other.
