Our December exhibition is by the incredibly talented Sofia Suleiman. Entitled ‘Identity’ Sofia is questioning the meaning behind her own mixed heritage and how this, alongside the different people and communities she has met over time, is shaping her own identity.
Within this exhibition, Sofia has taken inspiration from the form and vibrancy of flowers exploring how shapes and colours can transcend a person back to a specific memory. Her oil paintings are named after East African women’s names, and contain the dimensions of a woman’s height. Attempting to frame the voices of women that represent part of her history with Zanzibar.
She will be holding an exhibition launch on the evening of Wednesday 6th December between 6pm and 8pm. Collaborating with a new zine that is also themed on identity, this will be an amazing chance to meet local creatives who are trying to explore what identity means in this current time.
There will also be a chance to buy handmade products from Burst Crafts, including handcrafted scent pouches
