In collaboration with Sign for All, The Film Bunch are offering an Introduction to British Sign Language course, which is suitable for complete beginners who have a general interest in BSL and want to improve their communication skills with deaf people. No prior knowledge of BSL is needed.
This is a non-accredited course where you will learn basic BSL including fingerspelling alphabet, numbers, grammar, everyday vocabulary and conversation such as greetings, asking for directions, emotions, family and more.
The course will run for 8 weeks inside our Cabin (see map below). Each lesson will last for 2 hours with a short break. Students will participate in group work and activities, meet deaf guest speakers and be given optional homework tasks. Students will get free tickets to our film screening in November and Christmas party in December.
By the end of the course, you will have an understanding of BSL and deaf culture and be able to interact in basic conversation with deaf people.
The course is also an ideal introduction to the language for those who may be thinking about studying for a Level 1 qualification in BSL. Please note this is a course for adults so not suitable for under 18s.
