10AM - 12PM | £7.50 OR £25 FOR 4 SESSIONS
How can we use art to develop a better relationship with our self? This May, we are delighted to welcome artist Mellina Van Der Welk back to the Create Place, to lead the ‘Self Drawing Workshop’, after her very successful February season.
Mellina’s own experience of using herself as a muse led to her own personal growth and unexpected feelings of empowerment: ‘Taking inspiration from traditional life drawing, I twisted it by removing the model and using myself, the artist, as my own muse. From this, I have created the self drawing project, aimed at young people aged 14-16 at a transitional time in their lives.’
Over four consecutive Sunday sessions throughout the month, artists will learn how to receive and offer creative support and encouragement with their peers. Together, they will explore how their relationships to themselves and others influences their self-esteem. Under the guiding hand of Mellina, the aim of the sessions is ‘to remove the “celebrity” aspect of social media, to remove the idea of self-acceptance through online likes, and focus on students’ personal acceptance’.
