Artists in Residence Babette Van Gerwen and Will Kennedy invite you from the wet slippery pavement into their colourful wormy lair, celebrating the misfit creatures of our cities in this exhibition and participatory art event.
What if worms ruled the world and were revered? What if pigeons were never discarded as our companions? What if moles were allowed to dig freely without fear of upsetting the overbearing gardener? Over the course of their three months in the studio at St Margaret’s house, they have attempted to answer these questions through performance, photography, story telling, costume making, and lots of paper mache. They now invite you to reflect on these essential questions together with them.
Expect to see a series of artworks dedicated to the characters which emerged from the mud world and an opportunity to become characters of your own, through collaborative dress up using DIY costume parts crafted with reclaimed and recycled fabrics.
Babette and Will also collaborate as Sundial Arts, a community arts initiative focused on play, collaboration and connecting to nature through experimental art making. They have hosted art workshops and community exhibitions including Art in the Park, Art Club, What We Notice and Looking at Everyday Life.
