Ghyama Arts!

GHYAMA ARTS! (Awesome Arts!) provides high quality arts activities in theatre, film and circus to increase confidence and independence for disabled adults from our friends and tenants: The Bangladeshi Parents and Carers Association (BPCA) in Tower Hamlets and Newham.

Ghyama Arts is beneficial to everyone who is involved with it but most importantly to our participants; many will leave sessions giving a ‘double thumbs up’ to the workshop leader and sharing their favourite parts. In the past they’ve shared they like to sing and dance to Bengali music with one person saying “I like dancing because I like to move my body”.

Support workers in the room get the opportunity to join in with workshops, in the past reflecting on how “joyful [it is] to be in the room and to see how everyone takes part.”

Thanks to funding from the City Bridge Foundation, we have been delivering FREE arts workshops with the BPCA for the past three years, in partnership with some fantastic companies and artists including:

  • SPARE TYRE THEATRE: a leading artist-led participatory theatre company that seeks to reflect society, challenge its prejudices and make life equal.

  • CHOCOLATE FILMS who offer filmmaking workshops which enable participants to take their creativity, imagination and skills to the next level.

  • CIRCUS PRACTITIONERS from the National Centre for Circus Arts, including Dan Rose and Ed Stephen.
