  • Virginia Orr

    ‘Peony 3939’

    ‘Dahlia 6011’

    ‘Tulip 5178’

Giclee Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Paper

    £45/£25 framed

I’m interested in the point when a cut flower starts to ‘go over’ and exploring the relationship between beauty and decay. I photograph them against a black background and then print on a paper that blurs the ground between a print and painting. The black frames, no borders and no glass are conscious decisions to invite the viewer to immerse themselves in the beauty of colour and texture.

    ‘Free Fall Leaves’

    Monoprint

The pieces I created were an experiment of how far I could go using the media. What I like about making art with Sandpit arts is that it encourages freedom of expression through art and not being afraid of making mistakes, as well as learning from others.

  • Qanitah Malik

    ‘Tree of Life’

    Linoprint

I think the best part about Sandpit Arts has been finding a dedicated space to experiment with acrylics, lino printing and mark making collectively. The nature theme was very fitting to my personal interests.

I've lived locally for 3 years and have always yearned for community building activities in the area to connect with others. The connection with St Margaret's, a community hub offering other wellbeing workshops to residents, has added to the feeling of being rooted to the area.
