2025

  • The Chapel at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

An exhibition of abstract drawing by Tamsin Spargo, exploring the theme of time and documenting one year in her life.

“2025” is an exhibition of abstract pencil drawings by Tamsin Spargo, exploring time through a non-traditional approach to drawing. Each drawing was made by throwing pencils at the paper repeatedly, leaving the outcome of the work to chance. To make each work, the artist did this for one calendar month, regardless of the impact it had on the paper. This consistent act records her presence during a certain period of time. The 12 drawings document each month of 2025, creating a record of a year as a whole, as well as capturing the gestures and movements that the artist made throughout that year. This is the first time that the drawings have been exhibited.

In addition to documenting a period of time, these abstract works expand on the possibilities of drawing. Instead of creating a recognisable image, they focus on movement, mark making, and gesture. This approach is a challenge to ideas about what drawing is and how a drawing can be made. Exploring the process and meaning of drawing is a significant theme in Tamsin Spargo’s work. She uses a variety of non-traditional drawing techniques to do this, and previously used the same technique in her postgraduate degree show in 2021, held at nearby London Metropolitan University.

All are welcome to the opening night of the exhibition. This will include a short poetry reading connected to the exhibition’s theme, with contributions from several local poets.
