Boxes and Scenarios

  • The Chapel at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

'The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper' — W.B. Yeats

Boxes and Scenarios is a mixed media art exhibition by John Adams. John uses found objects and images which conjure up magical, often surreal scenes.

Work is shown in a variety of forms, including box assemblages, collages, objects and constructed scenes and dioramas on canvas.

John’s work shows the use of diverse materials and source material gleaned from a lifetime of books, theatre, films and music as well as artefacts found on his travels and at his home base by the Thames estuary. Beaches, coastlines, old wooden boats, pavements and details of buildings have yielded an amazing source material for the works.

‘There is magic in ordinary objects. Things that are simple, that are used often, that are loved that last, for every year of wear and layer of patina that accrue on the surface, an equal store of irresistible charm and fascination fills an imagined, interior space within them and shrouds them in an aura of enchantment — Christopher Butler 2016
