This is our Summer Open Call Exhibition with over 30 artists showing works across all sorts of mediums, expressing their unique interpretation of this year’s theme of ‘light and dark’.

Light and Dark offers an opportunity to explore the contrasts between illumination and shadow, not just in a physical sense but also in emotion, symbolism, and storytelling.

In painting, the dramatic use of light and shadow can draw attention to specific elements or create a sense of volume and realism. In photography, lighting is crucial for setting tone and guiding the viewer’s eye. Even abstract and conceptual artists explore these contrasts to evoke atmosphere or comment on deeper psychological or social themes.

It encourages viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the balance of opposites that shape our world.

Access: step-free entry to The Gallery Cafe is at the rear, through the garden. It is accessible through the gate located two doors to the left of the cafe’s main entrance. If you need access to an accessible toilet, please let us know so we can arrange that.
