South Asian Sisters Speak (SASS) invites you to our storytelling event exploring the theme of food.
Join us for an evening of storytelling with South Asian Sisters Speak (SASS), as part of the Power of Food Festival. We’ll be exploring the deep connections between food, memory, and identity through the voices of South Asian women in the food industry.
The evening will begin with an “In Conversation” segment featuring South Asian chefs and food writers, inviting reflections on how food intersects with culture, tradition, and sustainability. We’ll discuss the underrepresentation of South Asian women in professional kitchens despite their central role in feeding families and communities.
Following the panel, we’ll invite you to take part in an open mic session, sharing your own stories, recipes, or reflections on food and its meaning in your life. We’ll close the evening by sharing food together, prepared by a local business.
Expect a warm, welcoming space to speak, listen, connect, and eat!
South Asian Sisters Speak (SASS) creates spaces for South Asian women to connect, learn and share their experiences. Since 2016, they’ve hosted workshops, panels, and the Brown Girls’ Book Club - building community and belonging so South Asian women feel empowered to be their whole selves.
