Tapestry - Part One

  • The Gallery Cafe at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

An evening of overlapping performances, evolving ideas and shared creation, where individual voices weave into a collective whole.

Onesixfour invites you to Tapestry, a new monthly live art series exploring collective creation, improvisation, and shared experience. This first event marks the beginning of a three-part run of initial “tester” evenings, offering space to experiment together, build community, and explore how this format might grow sustainably.

What is Tapestry?

Tapestry is a space that embraces openness, experimentation, and diversity. A tapestry is formed from many threads crossing, overlapping, and supporting one another to create a single artwork. This event mirrors that process: individual performances weave into one another, allowing unexpected patterns, connections, and moments to emerge through shared creation. Rather than a series of isolated sets, the evening unfolds as one continuous, evolving performance shaped by everyone in the room.

How the event works:

Across the evening, artists working in any performance-based medium are invited to share — from music and spoken word to movement, sound, and experimental forms. Each performer plays solo for around ten minutes. During the next two to three minutes, the next performer begins, creating an overlap where both artists improvise and adapt to one another in real time before the new performer continues solo. This overlapping structure encourages listening, responsiveness, and collaboration, shifting the focus away from individual showcase and toward collective experience.

Who is this for?

Tapestry is open to all ages, and everyone is welcome. Whether you’re a seasoned performer, an emerging artist, a lover of experimental art, or simply curious, this is a low-pressure, inclusive environment for shared exploration. Audience members are invited not just to watch, but to inhabit the space — contributing to a temporary, living artwork through presence, attention, and participation.

At its core, Tapestry is about social art: prioritising shared creation over perfection, and embracing risk, play, and learning together. This is not about pushing anyone beyond their comfort zone, but about creating a space where comfort zones can gently intersect, sparking curiosity, connection, and inspiration.

Onesixfour is a multi-disciplinary arts collective, comprising of diverse artists from different backgrounds. We operate as a creative ecosystem, welcoming all forms of art, design and music with a focus on anti-capitalist community building. The core members of Onesixfour all actively practice widely varied art forms, and we have either individually or collectively ran multiple events and workshops over the past three years.
Our wider network reaches far and wide, and our goal is to continue growing this network; rather than an isolated collective, we want our focus to be on collective sharing, creating and collaborating, acting as a creative support network that grows organically.
