Tapestry Sessions

  • The Gallery Cafe at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Tapestry Sessions is a hybrid live improvised session that places real-time collective creation within an open sharing and learning environment

Anyone in attendance is invited to get involved, ask questions, connect with us and others, and have the chance to explore improvised performance within a low-pressure environment. Our intention is to nurture an inclusive, comfortable, creative space that prioritises community building and development of both individuals and the collective whole.

The space will be laid out with performance areas, which invite the audience to comfortably see how everything is working, or participate by performing themselves. The core performers will be there to guide, to share their process, and to have open conversations with.

How it works:
Laid out in the centre of the room will be three distinct sections — instrumental, vocal and electronic — that will flow in a casual performance. Each section will be led by one of our talented artists, and anyone in the room is open to walk around and have a closer look at what the performers are doing, or speak to the performers.
Everyone is welcome to then join in with the jam; whether you are a seasoned performer or simply curious, our artists will be there to guide you or show you how things work.
The goal here is to break the boundary between audience and performer.
If you're not interested in performing, the room will be filled with comfortable seating and arts/crafts for you to engage with as you please. We are fostering a dynamic environment that combines sharing, learning, expressing and relaxing.

Who is this for?
Each section will be open for anyone to join; whether you have decades of experience, or have never even tried it, you will have the space to experiment.
For those who are looking to join the main performance group, these sessions are an opportunity to meet us and get comfortable with how everything works. Our core group will be hosting rehearsals in between these sessions, so there is an opportunity to come along to those if you enjoy the sessions and want to be a part of the main Tapestry events.
These sessions are also for anyone who is looking for a space to relax, experience an open music jam, connect with other creatives or just have a few hours of being within a creative space. This is an environment for community and solace, away from the chaos of the world.

We’re excited to welcome you to Tapestry Sessions

Artist Bio: Onesixfour is a multi-disciplinary arts collective, comprising of diverse artists from different backgrounds. We operate as a creative ecosystem, welcoming all forms of art, design and music with a focus on anti-capitalist community building. The core members of Onesixfour all actively practice widely varied art forms, and we have either individually or collectively ran multiple events and workshops over the past three years.
Our wider network reaches far and wide, and our goal is to continue growing this network; rather than an isolated collective, we want our focus to be on collective sharing, creating and collaborating, acting as a creative support network that grows organically.
