Explore Outdoors - Mindfulness Meditation in the Park

  • Victoria Park - The Glade, Sacred Circle, Victoria Park Road Victoria Park Road London, England, E2 9JW United Kingdom (map)

Mindfulness Meditation is a 2500-year-old practice originating in ancient India that still resonates with our world in the 21st Century. It is the art of being awake to the present moment.

Across five weeks, Damselfly and Lotus will take you on a gentle journey of exploring mindfulness practices and some of the basic underlying theory of the mind and body. Through this friendly and inclusive series, we hope that you will get a taster of the transformative benefits that it can offer.

These sessions are open to all levels of practitioners and pitched at a level that is inclusive towards newcomers to mindfulness meditation. You can attend individual sessions or all five (on either Wednesdays or Fridays) – whatever works for you.

The golden rule in practising meditation is to adopt a position that is as comfortable and alert as possible. If you are able, please bring a mat or towel, cushions (to either sit on, or to place behind the head, neck, and knees when lying down), or a portable chair. Consider anything else you may need to be comfortable in all weathers (e.g. a blanket if you get chilly easily or water to stay hydrated). If you can comfortably just sit on the grass, that option is of course open to you.

Your teacher is: Mythili (pronounced ‘my-the-lee’)

“I am a trained and accredited Mindfulness Meditation teacher and have been practising meditation since I was a teenager. I now have the pleasure of teaching participants within groups or solo. My journey of practising and teaching mindfulness has also been informed by my professional background in Medicine, teaching in higher education, as well as my creative background as a composer. Mindfulness has been key in connecting me with my love of humanity, nature and the planet. It has supported my wellbeing throughout my life’s many experiences of working with and caring for many people from diverse communities for over two decades”

Your co-facilitator is: Jon

“I have been practising meditation since my 20s, and have either been studying or teaching in higher education across the USA and UK for the past two decades, most recently as a university Lecturer. My academic background of Sociology and Psychology has been foundational to my understanding of how our minds are impacted by societal structures and the self. Mindfulness has grounded me in my journey of compassionate understanding, supporting me to teach and work with many people.”
