farce is a curatorial project for artists who engage with the absurd, satire, and caricature.
With our second iteration of farce, we explore how contemporary artists engage with the concept and characteristics of the holy fool in their practice. The figure of the holy fool originates in early Christianity. Rejecting societal norms, holy fools engage in deliberate acts of absurdity, such as public nudity and self-imposed isolation, to challenge conventional values. The holy fool represents a deliberate inversion of worldly logic and occupies a unique place at the intersection of faith and spirituality, absurdity, and social critique.
This 10 artist group show features work across multiple media including two performances, The Pair in Her Face, by Anna Curzon Price at 7pm during the Opening Event, and Dolores by Elisabeth Mulenga at 4.30pm on the Saturday. A public lecture 'The Fool’s Journey: Queer Transformations of the Tarot' by Alex Bispham will take place at 12noon on the Sunday. Ticketing information can be found through our Instagram page.
