Many Hands Exhibition: Darning Workshop

  • St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

As part of the Many Hands: Make Mending Matter exhibition weekend, join us for a special darning workshop.

Celebrating repair as resistance and why mending matters.

Darning is a traditional stitching method for repairing fabric damage or holes, mostly in wool garments, where patching is impractical or would create discomfort.

If you're a beginner, you'll be able to try out the basic weaving technique on some samples of material, or weave a patch on a cardboard loom. Otherwise bring your own darning with you and we can try to help each other.

This workshop is part of Second-Hand September, and highlights repair as a powerful alternative to the wastefulness of throwaway culture. It reminds us that fixing things is not just practical, it’s political.

Suitable for all ages.
