Brightness Spreads

  • The Chapel at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

Brightness Spreads presents Kim’s first solo exhibition, featuring prints, drawings, and paintings developed during her studies at Chelsea College of Arts.

Brightness Spreads is the inherent meaning of the artist’s name and serves as a guiding principle in navigating her artistic journey. Kim’s first solo exhibition features works accumulated throughout her studies at Chelsea College of Arts, including prints, drawings, and paintings developed over the course of her fine art practice.

The artist explores the ever-changing surrounding environment with constant curiosity and a determination to learn. By closely observing everyday spaces and responding to shifting environments, her work reflects an ongoing engagement with place, memory, and experience. Through encounters with different spaces, communities and cultures around the world, the works aim to communicate through a cross-cultural lens that transcends language and cultural barriers.

Held at St. Margaret’s House, this first solo exhibition presents a selected body of work that reflects the artist’s evolving visual language and research interests. Marking an important stage in her artistic development, the exhibition precedes her final Degree Show scheduled for June. The artist intends to continue her practice through postgraduate study, aiming to pursue an MA in Print at the Royal College of Art.

“The common denominator between problems and the tidal patterns of the ocean is that it will return again and again. Not always in the same form, or in the same place, but it will find its way back to you.”

The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on recurring cycles of return, transformation, and adaptation within both familiar and unfamiliar environments.
