This free 10-week workshop series invites you to connect with different cultures and learn the skills and techniques of Nokshi Katha, one of the oldest forms of embroidery in the world. Originating in Bangladesh, this is a beautiful and meditative craft which upcycles old cloth and materials into elaborate embroidered pieces. You will learn techniques from our expert practitioner, sustainable textile artist Shama Kun, and use your skills to contribute to both individual and collective pieces.

Each term the group create pieces inspired by a different theme such as “Women’s Empowerment”, using Nokshi Katha as an expressive medium to create colourful and detailed peices that can be added to clothing or as decorative art. Many of the past participants have continued to meet to practice the craft, and you will be joining a vibrant and welcoming community of people who have developed a love for practicing Nokshi Katha.

No prior experience of Nokshi Katha or any other embroidery is necessary to join this friendly and supportive group.

We run three terms of 10-weeks per year during Autumn, Winter and Spring. This is a free course but registration is essential, see details below.

To get most out of the course, we ask that people commit to as many sessions of the term as possible.

Access: If you have any access needs of which we should be aware, please let us know. Entry to The Create Place is step-free but the toilet is not accessible. If you need access to an accessible toilet, please let us know so we can arrange that.
