Gentle movement, restorative yoga and yoga nidra to support your pregnancy
As the days draw in, and you perhaps find yourself feeling more exhausted in your pregnancy, why not give yourself the gift of an afternoon of extended practice, encompassing gentle movement, restorative yoga to relieve tiredness and tension from the body and mind, and deep rest in the form of yoga nidra (deep yogic sleep).
Being pregnant is a wonderful and transformative experience, which can also be challenging and exhausting. Your body is going through incredible physiological changes to create life. Not to mention the hormonal shifts that occur, which can play havoc on your emotional and mental wellbeing. Now more than ever, the importance of self-care and deep rest is paramount.
Tiredness and even deep exhaustion can be very common in pregnancy, whether in the first trimester when you might find yourself with no energy, or in the third trimester where sleep feels like a distant memory. Every woman’s pregnancy journey is different but prioritising rest can support you through this time and help alleviate some of the symptoms and tiredness that come with pregnancy.
Restorative yoga is a wonderful practice to support you during pregnancy. It is an invitation to rest and replenish your energy by down-shifting the nervous system, letting go of physical and mental tension and allowing mind and body to come back into balance. Like a soothing balm, restorative yoga can be a refuge when you need it most.
So why not join me for this afternoon session where we’ll gently move the body, before sinking into the support of props for some deep release in restorative poses that are suitable and safe for pregnancy. Followed by a deeply relaxing and restful yoga nidra practice (a guided relaxation that will let you drift off into a place somewhere between wakefulness and sleep) to help you really replenish yourself.
Think of it as an early Christmas present to yourself!
Testimonials
“Wonderful pregnancy yoga class, I have been attending regularly and have really enjoyed Sarah’s instruction. She sets a welcoming and relaxing environment, targets all the aches and niggles of the attendees and winds down with a lovely mediation exercise at the end. Highly recommend. - Jayne Sarah’s pregnancy yoga classes have been a lovely space to relax and feel supported each week. After every class I leave feeling refreshed and that my mind and body have had a reset. Also a very welcoming place for meeting other expectant parents.” - Lindsay
About Sarah:
I’m an experienced yoga teacher based in East London, and have been practising yoga for 25 years and teaching for over 18 years. Starting to practice yoga is one of the best things I ever decided to do in life, and I am so happy to be able to share all of the benefits of this wonderful and potentially life-changing practice through my teaching.
I truly believe that everyone can benefit from yoga, whatever their background, age or current physical condition, and my approach to teaching is one of warmth, encouragement and care and is always tailored to an individual’s needs. I try to always make the practice as simple and accessible as possible for people.
I have worked with people of all ages and in all types of settings, ranging from a sheltered housing facility and community centres through to leading yoga studios, as well as with many corporate clients including banks and law firms. I also have a great deal of experience of working with people on a 1:1 basis, and really enjoy this way of supporting people in a very individual way.
My own practice and teaching encompasses everything from the more dynamic practice of vinyasa yoga, through to gentler hatha yoga and somatics, and the slower practices of yin and restorative yoga.
I am also a fully qualified and experienced pregnancy and postnatal yoga teacher, and love supporting women through this special time and big transition in their lives. More recently my studies have taken me into the realm of yoga therapy and teaching yoga for stress, anxiety, burnout and Long Covid, as well as for Menopause.
Having lived and worked in London for many years I am very aware of the stresses and strains of big city living and knows how a regular yoga practice can help to combat these and enable people find more space, peace, ease and balance in their body and mind.
