Wading Through, Climbing Out

  • The Chapel at St. Margaret's House 21 Old Ford Road London, England, E2 9PL United Kingdom (map)

On top of their ecological and political visual significance, the imagery of tunnels and pipelines has many metaphorical interpretations.

They can be used to illustrate isolation, struggle and circular patterns of thought, but also present paths to freedom, transition, rebirth, gained knowledge.

Predominantly created over the summer of 2025, this collection by East End born artist Molly Andrews explores this motif, examining and narrativising tunnels as pathways from sites of betrayal to spaces of acceptance through drawings, paintings, poetry and sketchbook pieces.
