Beat the January Blues
22nd January 2026
It was 'Blue Monday' at the start of this week: supposedly the most depressing day of the year. Wintering is a healthy process for the environment, and ourselves, accepting the need to slow down, hide indoors a little and get ready for an energised spring. But doing something fun and engaging can also help us beat the January Blues, and coming together with others is a great way to lift the spirits. We hope there's something coming up at St Margaret's House that will bring you here to help you weather the winter.
Over the next few weeks you will also notice some building works happening at St Margaret's House as we give some much-needed attention to the roof, among other things. Everything will be open as usual and we look forward to sharing with you our plans for more renovations once the most pressing work has been undertaken. Watch this space.
Check out our What's on page and read on to find out what's coming up that you can get involved in!

This exhibition brings together work created in the Artist in Residence Studio by LJ Furner and Virginia Orr, two artists at the beginning of a period of change and transition in their lives.
Exploring notions of memory, trust and connection, these works are not necessarily collaborative in terms of their physical form, but were each created in the same space, by two artists at the start of their new beginnings.
This workshop will give you simple, reliable and effective ways for restoring a much-needed sense of physical and energetic integration to your being.
In unplugging from our outer lives for an afternoon, we will give ourselves the chance to plug into our own breath, our own awareness, our own inner being. We will emerge recharged, nourished and bolstered to meet our lives anew from a more rested and grounded place.
St Margaret's House are excited to be collaborating with Remark's Community Team, to create an inclusive and integrated space for people to come together to have conversations using BSL, whether it is your first language, you are learning or want to increase your D/deaf awareness.
There will also be a key guest each month who will do a presentation about their work within the D/deaf Community.
After four months of litter mapping, collecting discarded materials and experimenting with them, building junk instruments, playing, listening and testing ideas together, something important has happened. The Men’s Cabin group (Poplar) have decided how the Making Noise for a Greener Poplar, which started in September 2025, will culminate. A performance: Rubbish The Musical.
