Extra Second London

Join us for a cosy poetry, spoken word, music and discussion night on the last Saturday of every month (except August and January). Hosted by Kid Anansi and Julie G, we offer open mic slots before we embark on the monthly discussion topic. Our discussions provide a healing space for spoken word performers and audiences to connect and reflect on the writing and performing processes. We think we’re the only open mic night offering a discussion section which we provide to make the evening open and accessible to everyone at different stages of their journey, as an engaged audience member, a new writer and performer or a seasoned pro!

Open mic slots are 5 minutes but that's not a limit, we always give open mic-ers a few Extra Seconds, as our name suggests.

Join us from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Our theme this month is FUNGI, the final (and best) part of our Flora, Fauna and Fungi series.

Fungi are one of the most fascinating and complex life forms we know about. They recycle and distribute nutrients across ecosystems, showing immense intelligence and relationality.

Some Fungi are known to eat radiation and decompose plastic, potentially offering a solution to man-made problems we haven't solved for decades.

Still other Fungi have been used to access altered states of consciousness and as part of spiritual journeys. Come and celebrate this magnificent 'kingdom' with us on 26th June.
