Celebrate the success you've helped us achieve!

9th April 2026

We are incredibly happy to share some very special news with you this week: St Margaret’s House has been awarded £700,000 from Arts Council England’s Creative Foundations Fund, part of the government’s wider Arts Everywhere Fund supporting cultural spaces across the country. As a 135-year-old community arts and wellbeing centre, welcoming over 100,000 people each year, this funding will allow us to carry out essential repairs and improvements to the spaces we use to deliver our work - making them safe, warm and improving accessibility while making long-overdue sustainability changes that protect our Creative Health work for the future.

Your continued support, even when our spaces have needed care, has made this possible. We look forward to continuing to grow, improve and welcome both familiar faces and new visitors into our spaces.

We are delighted to announce the theme of this year’s St Margaret’s House Summer Open Exhibition: The Space Between.
We invite artists to submit work for the exhibition, held in The Gallery Cafe from 21st July to 31st August. The exhibition's theme encourages exploring contrasts such as urban and natural or inside and outside through any medium to celebrate how differences can connect and coexist.

Join Porsha Hill for a hands-on introduction to natural dyeing—explore its history, techniques, and create your own unique design using plant dyes.

During this afternoon workshop, you will spend time really slowing down, giving yourself space and time to simply be and finding a deep inner stillness in both the body and mind.

Our afterschool sessions provide the youngest members of the community a fun and supportive space to explore the art of making people laugh, from creating comedy sketches and trying out stand-up to experimenting with playful clowning. They will build confidence, spark creativity and develop their own comic voice, whether they are new to performing or already love it. Join us for the summer term to help them meet new friends, share ideas and enjoy plenty of laughter while gaining skills they can use both on and off the stage.

Using the routes from Bethnal Green station that criss-cross to St Margaret's House, Rebecca Wilson (our Artist in Residence from January to March 2026) explored the different paths to the same destination, focusing on chosen pause points along the way.

Additionally, on Saturday 25th April, join Rebecca for a guided walk and mini book-making workshop as part of her exhibition.

Discover Boxed In, a playful and thought-provoking theatre experience for ages 3–6 at Half Moon Theatre. Created by Daryl & Co. and Half Moon, this largely non-verbal show uses movement, visual storytelling and gentle humour to explore the invisible rules that shape our everyday lives. Follow Derek and Jon as they try to make sense of a confusing world where “stop” means “go” and no one explains why, in a story that speaks to anyone who has ever felt left out or unsure.

Running 21st-23rd, Boxed In is inclusive, accessible and perfect for family audiences looking for a fun, imaginative introduction to theatre.
