Reuse and Relove: September Highlights

24th September 2025

As the new season unfolds, we warmly invite you to join us at St Margaret’s House for a week filled with inspiring workshops, events, and activities. This September, we are especially proud to participate in Second Hand September, celebrating creativity, sustainability and the joy of giving new life to pre-loved items. From fun events to hands-on workshops, there are lots of opportunities to take part and make a difference.

At a time when the social and political climate can feel uncertain, we believe in the strength of coming together, now more than ever. St Margaret’s House is a place where everyone is welcome and where community spirit, creativity and kindness continue to thrive. We look forward to seeing you, sharing moments of connection and reminding ourselves of the power we have when we gather, learn and create side by side.

This weekend, we invite you to take part in a full line-up of activities focused on Second Hand September.

Discover the Many Hands: Make Mending Matter exhibition, exploring stories of repair and the value of making things last. Bring your own items to the Repair Café, where volunteers can help you mend clothes, small electrical appliances, or IT devices. You can also join the Ayoka Fashion Show workshop and work on upcycled looks for the upcoming catwalk.

Across both days you’ll find hands-on sessions and screenings. Learn practical skills in the Darning Workshop, or watch a Breaks & Joins film that raises questions about clothing and consumption. The Ayoka Thrift Sale will also be running, giving you the chance to pick up affordable pieces while supporting sustainable fashion.

Celebrate International Cyanotype Day with Marina Longo, analogue photographer and cyanotype artist. This relaxed drop-in workshop invites you to create a cyanotype print and contribute it to our Celebration of Cyanotype exhibition, showcasing Marina’s work alongside that of other artists.

Join us for an evening of cosy and relaxed life drawing every fortnight at the Canvas, to practise your sketching and view bodies in a neutral appreciation of form and figure.

This workshop is a fun and friendly introduction to creating a two-layer reduction linocut print, ideal for beginner and intermediate printmakers, with all materials provided.

This exhibition, part of PhotoMonth, presents two years of Urbanlens’ collaborative night walks through the city's hidden corners, featuring photographs by artists and participants projected in the chapel. It also invites you to join a special Friday evening photography walk to explore and capture the urban landscape at twilight.

Come along to the Family Information Service and Local Offer Open Day on 23rd October 2025 from 10am to 2pm at Tower Hamlets, Grocers Wing, 160 Whitechapel Road, London, E1 1BJ.
